The FIFA U-20 World Cup Argentina 2023™ draw took place on Friday 21st April at the Home of FIFA in Zurich, marking the countdown to the much-anticipated football tournament. FIFA President Gianni Infantino expressed his delight and excitement for the 23rd edition of the prestigious event, extending his congratulations to the 23 teams that have qualified and gratitude to Argentina for hosting the event.
The draw ceremony was presented by Samantha Johnson and featured FIFA Director of Tournaments Jaime Yarza, with assistance from FIFA Legends Juan Pablo Sorin and David Trezeguet. The 24 teams were divided into six groups of four, setting the stage for fierce competition across Argentina.
The matches will be held across four host cities: La Plata, Mendoza, San Juan, and Santiago del Estero, with the tournament kicking off on 20th May. The opening day will see four matches taking place in San Juan and Santiago del Estero, including hosts Argentina facing Uzbekistan at Santiago del Estero Stadium. Both cities will also host the quarter-final round, while La Plata Stadium will be the venue for the semi-finals, third-place match, and the grand final.
FIFA President Infantino praised the Argentinian Football Association and its President, ‘Chiqui’ Tapia, along with the governmental authorities for their role in organising the tournament.
