In November 2022, Qatar officially joined the Biobanking and Biomolecular resources Research Infrastructure – European Research Infrastructure Consortium. This is the first time a non-European country has joined BBMRI-ERIC, which reflects in a positive light on Qatar’s position in the global biobanking field.
This membership brings Qatar’s Biobank access to BBMRI’s specialized knowledge in Quality Management, ELSI, and IT tools with the plan to strengthen further the local medical research capabilities and support reaching a common goal of precision medicine development.
The two-path collaboration also brings significant benefits to BBMRI-ERIC, from growing an international exchange of knowledge to enabling the global research society to better deal with future health threats and develop treatments for a healthier future.
The two sides have been working hand in hand for years, building on established ties and increasing the potential of the global research community to improve work on health issues and develop new medical solutions.
Qatar Biobank operates under the Qatar Foundation and the Ministry of Public Health. Its outstanding leadership succeeded in putting Qatar among the leading European countries in medical research and biobanking.
Joining the consortium assures that international stakeholders will recognize the local work of Qatar Biobank and that efforts in the medical research fields are valuable for the world’s health future.
